Meet the Creators Behind Bunny House, Montreal’s Go-to Decoden Destination

Founded in July 2024, Bunny House is a cozy studio in Downtown Montreal where creativity and nostalgia come to life. Created by Kano Shimpo and Cindy Lieu, it’s a space for people to relax, express themselves, and enjoy lighthearted fun—no matter their age or aesthetic.

With a brand rooted in playfulness, Bunny House challenges the idea that "cute" is just for some. If something brings you joy, that’s all that matters. Through thoughtful experiences and warm hospitality, Kano and Cindy have built a community where guests feel at home.

Tell us about your work.

We launched Bunny House in July 2024 and are based in Downtown Montreal. We were inspired to start this together because we realized our visions aligned when it came to work ethic and values, particularly in curating a space where people can relax and be creative with those close to them. It also provided us with a fun outlet to rediscover lighthearted and playful creativity that we didn't have much time for in our day-to-day lives.

How would you describe your brand?

Our brand is playful and cute. We want our space to feel cozy and inviting, offering an activity that’s a bit out of the norm. People often have the misconception that cute things are reserved only for younger or more feminine audiences. However, we believe that liking cute things isn't a statement of personality or aesthetic; it's simple and lighthearted. If something makes you happy, that's all that matters. It’s meant to “spark joy”, as Marie Kondo would say, and create a sense of familiarity that returns us to innocence.

“You learn the most through trial and error, consistency, and not giving up.”

What do you love most about what you do?

We truly feel honoured to welcome such great guests into our studio. We often feel like big sisters or aunties! Offering exceptional customer service is very important to us, so we’re grateful when people appreciate our efforts—it really makes it all worth it. Additionally, we get to have fun and create a lot of cute and unique things, and who wouldn’t love that?

What challenges have you faced in your journey?

Both of us struggle with perfectionism, which has sometimes set us back. We've also learned that managing an active social media presence is essentially a full-time job, especially when your brand depends on social networking for marketing and connecting with the right consumers and collaborators.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

Regarding the perfectionism we mentioned, take it from us—just do the thing. Some things will never feel perfect or fully ready, but you won’t grow if you stay hidden! While research and preparation are essential, you learn the most through trial and error, consistency, and not giving up.
